About The Prayer Quilt Ministry

Our Prayer Quilt Ministry is an outreach ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is said for someone who then receives the quilt as a gift of love and a constant reminder that prayers have been said for them. Quilts have been made for sick babies, for cancer, HIV, and AIDS patients, for adults and children facing surgery or personal crisis; for many reasons, but each for someone in special need of prayer.

What is a Prayer Quilt?

This type of quilt is a "lap" quilt, laced with heavy thread. These laces, or threads, are tied with a square knot by members of the congregation following each church service, and by members of a prayer team. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in special need. The quilts are a gift of love and prayer. They are a statement of our belief in prayer and our faith in God and in His power to comfort, strengthen, and heal.

Who Receives the Quilts?

Quilts are provided for a variety of different prayer needs from illness, to crisis, to surgery, to ministry encouragement and are given to people of all ages from infants to seniors.

Who Makes the Quilts?

Anyone who wants to! You do not need to know how to sew. Remember, the purpose is to provide prayers through the tying of the knots. A quilt, no matter how simple, is a gift from the heart. The majority of our quilts are made by a small group of women and by children from our children's ministry.

How You Can Help?

You can help by praying, quilting or donating. All are welcomed, whether you are a quilter or not. If you feel like you'd like to be a part of this rewarding ministry? We'd love to have you. Then you too can become a witness to the awesomeness of prayer! Donations of fabric is needed. (1 yard 100% cotton fabric) If you don't like to shop, donate gift cards in the offering bags or box for fabric to be purchased.

Four Principles of The Prayer Quilt Ministry

We have four basic principles we follow within the prayer quilt ministry of Christ Community Church:

1. Prayer is the activity of our ministry. Our goal is to involve as many people as possible in our prayer efforts and to actively model lives of prayer among all ministry members.
2. We pray to the one true God - the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus. We believe He is the only God, therefore, He is the One we turn to for help.

3. We always ask before we make a quilt. The quilt recipient must be prepared and have agreed to receive a prayer quilt. Surprise prayer quilts are not acceptable. Before tying a prayer quilt, the individual receiving the quilt must agree to accept the gift of prayer in the form of the quilt.
4. We never accept any form of payment for quilts or for prayer. Anyone receiving quilts will not be obligated to Christ Community Church in any way.
